In fact, improved productivity has been only one of the advantages. Construction’s tech-driven transformation has been marked by improved safety; better collaboration and communication; cost reductions; smarter and more efficient operations and services; and more cost-effective and sustainable construction practices.

Just look across your own company. You’ve likely seen changes to your business, projects, employees and clients.

That change can alter your business’s risk — and the insurance necessary to protect it.

Persistent inflation has increased the cost of projects. Supply chain constraints, while improving, have limited the speed of access to materials and equipment. And despite the industry’s growth, skilled labor availability is still catching up with demand.

Historically high temperatures scorched the country from coast to coast, and there are no signs that this heat will abate anytime soon. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 436 people have died due to workplace heat exposure since 2011. In the same time period, there were an additional 2,700 cases of heat-related illnesses among workers. Now — quite literally more than ever — it is critical for employers to take steps to ensure their workers are protected from extreme heat.

Events like tornadoes, hailstorms, flooding and wildfires are worsening and happening more often. In fact, severe weather events exceeding $1 billion in damages have more than doubled in the past five years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Compounding problems, material inflation and supply chain delays could lead to longer, costlier recovery periods.

Both trends could pose greater financial risk if your business — or jobsite — is damaged.

Just as quickly as it went viral, it faded away and will be another footnote in the ongoing story that is the Manhattan skyline. For those directly affected by the collapse, though, the effects will last much longer. When these types of accidents occur, we look for answers to the same three questions:

The hard market over the past few years has forced insureds to become acclimated to underwriting surprises.
